Wildlife Comes First for T&T Tree Service During a Princeton, PA, Tree Removal

by | Jun 25, 2026

Sometimes, even the most well-planned tree removal can go wrong for a very small reason. During one recent call in Princeton, PA, what seemed like a straightforward task was disrupted by a family of raccoons that had taken up residence in the hollow of a dead tree.

Although the discovery of the mother and her babies delayed the project by a few days, T&T Tree Service demonstrated that a little patience is important when it comes to protecting wildlife.

When a Tree Removal Reveals a Surprise

  • Client Profile: Residential
  • Location: Princeton, Pennsylvania
  • Type of Service: Tree removal
  • Duration: Five hours
  • Season: Spring
  • Specific Challenges: During a tree removal to address a multi-lead, dead tree using a crane and aerial lift, the crew foreman discovered a mother raccoon and her babies living at the bottom of the hollowed-out trunk. The operation to remove that part of the tree was suspended to allow the animal time to relocate her kits. Several days later, the crew completed the project once the trunk was vacant.
  • Type of Tree: Spruce tree

Stopping Tree Work for a Good Reason

The homeowner initially contacted T&T Tree Service regarding a large spruce tree on their property. A lack of tree maintenance had left it dead and structurally compromised, especially after it split into multiple leaders. The homeowner worried that the tree was too unstable to withstand bad weather and wanted it cut down to avoid an emergency tree service call or storm damage cleanup.

On the day of the scheduled hazardous tree removal, the crew arrived with a crane and an aerial lift to dismantle the tree in sections. But partway through the removal, after the crew had removed the main branches and upper portion of the trunk, the crew foreman noticed a mama raccoon with her babies near the lower section of the hollow trunk.

Operations stopped immediately to give the animals time to relocate. The crew moved equipment away from the tree and secured the site so they could move undisturbed.

Finishing the Job the Right Way

Several days later, the crew found the remaining trunk vacant, so they completed the removal and stump grinding.

Although the work took slightly longer than anticipated, everyone was relieved that no wildlife was harmed during the tree removal process. That’s standard for T&T Tree Service, whether the project involves total removal or basic tree trimming. For compassionate and careful tree services, call (609) 397-2700.
